As summer slowly passes and we inevitably get closer to the beginning of another school year, we wanted to introduce our fifth edition of Cambridge cLASs scholars. Maja and Adam will arrive at LAS in a little over a month’s time and so we thought now would be a good time to formally introduce them on our blog.
Maja
My name is Maja, I’m 17 years old and I come from Gdynia, where I used to attend III Liceum Ogólnokształcące im. Marynarki Wojennej RP. I’m passionate about law, politics, philosophy, history and chemistry. In my non-existent free time, I’m an artist – I sing, compose and can play three different instruments. Oxford-style debating has been my biggest passion since I was 13. I’ve also taken part in many different conferences like Model United Nations or European Youth Parliament and even represented Poland during a few international sessions. Last year I set up my own social project called “Girls with Voice”, which focuses on spreading awareness about the role of feminism in building a more equitable future.
Since I’m keen on history and especially the 20th century, I am a Vice-President of the Youth Council in the Museum of World War II in Gdańsk. Last year I received the Our Future Foundation Scholarship and I also voluntarily work there coordinating events. Moreover, this year I was distinguished by the Vital Voices foundation in the “I am a Leader” programme for young women from all over Poland. In the future, I intend to become a lawyer and specialise in international and human rights law.
Adam
My name is Adam Szyszka and I come from Gogolin, but I am an IB-MYP student at Liceum Ogólnokształcące nr V in Wrocław. Cycling, reading books and travelling consume most of my after-school time. Since moving to Wrocław, I got involved in the Oxford Debate team, started volunteering for an educational charity, and became the laureate of The Entrepreneurship Olympiad.
Academically, I am particularly interested in economics, mathematics, and history. My passion in those areas led me to go through many different phases when it comes to choosing a potential career – I wanted to be a psychologist, an archaeologist, a basketball player, an engineer, but now I hope to start my own business or work in the financial sector.
We are already very proud of our students and just as excited to see what other amazing things they achieve in the next two years!
